Credit Cards

A credit card can be an extremely versatile financial tool. More convenient to carry around than cash, it is not only safer but using it also has a lot of benefits. However, credit cards if used recklessly can lead down a road where you owe more than you can repay. This can damage your credit and create problems that can be difficult to solve. Knowledge of some vital information can help you choose the right credit card or change from an existing one.

Choosing the right credit card for yourself is important. Different people have different needs and it is essential to identify your "credit-card personality”. Knowing your credit history and payment patterns is a must before choosing a credit card for yourself. You may want a credit card with a picture of your college or your favourite sports team on it. But never go for a card because it looks good. Annual fees, charges, interest rates and benefits vary among credit card issuers, so be sure to do look around thoroughly and find one that meets all your individual requirements.

If you have a good credit history and carry a balance on your card from month to month, your aim should be to find a credit card that has a low-interest rate, no annual fee and one that gives you a balance-transfer option in case you want to transfer your balance from a current higher interest card to a lower interest one.

Even if you have a bad credit history and do not clear your payment on time, some credit card companies may still issue you a credit card albeit at a higher interest rate or may decide to give you a Secured Credit Card. A Secured Credit Card is one that generally requires you to pay an upfront deposit and then you can charge purchases up to that amount or up to an amount greater than that, depending on the card you choose. With a secured card you are basically proving that you can handle credit and as you use your card, your rating improves leading you to qualify for a higher credit limit with a lower interest rate.

Even if you an absolutely new user, you will be given a credit card from credit card companies. As a first timer, you are invaluable to them, as they want you to be their customer life-long.
